Escaped or Set Free?

It roars at me from its restraints  
Pleading to be released  
Rattling its chains, its constraints  
All who've seen it are deceased  
 
It knashes its teeth, gnarls and growls  
Wailing, like a wolf in search of prey  
It rumbles, then lets forth firey howls
Urging, wishing to be thrown into the frey
 
I feel it burning me in times of conflict  
Tearing my insides, forcing its way out
Pain is his pleasure, he lives only to inflict
I keep him caged, inside a bloody redoubt
 
Don't tease what you think is innate
Do not tempt the beast inside me  
Test it, you'll suffer a tortured fate
Look past the surface, then you'll see
 
Take care in your steps, should you be lost
The beast is trapped, and I hold the key
One false move and your life it will cost
I have seen the monster, for he is me
