Dire

The wan, and worn
Haggard face
A pale cameo
Of former glories
And happier days
Now
Forlorn, fallowed
And forgotten
Her breath, hoarse
Rasping
A consequence
Perhaps
Of unhealthy indulgences
And a wayward smile
Bitter seeds were sown
Hands, and heart
Now gnarled
Etched with unwanted memories
As words fall
A dirge of disbelief
And belated regrets
