Told in the Sea

“Told in the Sea”

I have run through oceans with my arms wide—
Hoping to find you past the waters.
Sunlight kissed by rumor of the storm clouds,
Finds you sailing by my drowning promise—
I can’t see you as the depths surround me,
Taking endless seas into my lungs, I am dying
As I believe in the distant island’s sands of glass
Where the waves shall guide me hence to you
As you are passing to the shores I’ve left behind me…

I hear the seabirds, who are singing overhead—
And I believe they sing to me of the endless summer
Lying in wait, should I learn to swim without sinking.
I can hear them sighing as the waters close above me
With bliss, I feel the tide to be that shall bear my spirit
Away from the broken seasons to which you are flying—
I am reaching now for the fruitful trees of my new home
While you sing among the butterflies of desert roses—
My Eden to be now without beauty, these poison blooms
I know not that I reach where you are but an echo
Of the footfall on the shore that these tides shall bury.

I thought I heard you whisper you were near me,
As the birds circled ‘round their lonely sirens
Ere the waters took me from your voice
As the sea wind cried to the dying day.
I thought of those sights I never have seen
Where for so long you have been waiting
And I promised you I would come as the ocean bore me
As you came one step closer to what you thought was home.
