Image for the poem Reverence

Reverence

alone in the garden
on a cool autumn day
I remember the way
the leaves used to play
drenched in memory’s
sweat but undeterred
the wind moans and groans,
never says a word

like a fresh peach that’s
left too long on a tree
I’m indelibly marked by
such a sweet soliloquy
I imagined that those
days would never end
dreams would never break,
they would only bend

blue moonlight trained
and quieted the midnight
rumbling heartbeats,
everything there hit just right
the thief tiptoed quietly
along the garden’s path
and he so justly deserved
my passionate wrath

Author's Note
Watching an old Carry Grant movie “To Catch A Thief” Not the inspiration for this poem but an odd coincidence. 😊

“shadows cast by the raven’s wing
brush by as the memories fade
I am moved by this love song I sing
as I stand alone in the open glade”
