Be careful what you wish for

Five thousand cheap romance novels
On her elaborate shelves
A few sex toys
Not a single man in her life
Judy was twenty-four and a virgin
Except for....well, forget that
The bible she put aside, that episode did not count
A real man she wanted, of phone sex she had enough
Meetings from on-line dates were the same: cheats and swindlers.

On her way to work she walked by the travel agency
Noticed the superb poster about the Bahamas.  Beaches and sunshine
A good looking couple smiling, enjoying life as it should be.

On her day off she went on a shopping spree.
New clothes, new lingerie, new shoes, new luggage
Booked a trip, booked the hotel room.

At dinner, she saw him, sitting by the window, all by himself.
Good looking man, square jaw,  dark  hair neatly trimmed
She could imagine him posting for a cover of a romance novel
Eyes met, smiles.  He introduced himself: Jack Knowles.

A splendid evening.  Very much the gentleman.
They planned to meet the next morning, go explore the Island a bit.
She loved the idea.  Superbly romantic.
They met in the hotel lobby at ten.
They held hands, he gently kissed her on the cheek as they entered a huge park.

Later on that day, Knowles came back to the hotel alone
Took a boat back to Miami and disappeared.
A fellow walking his  dashhund found her lifeless body behind a bush
Strangled to death  and violated.

It is but years later that Jack Knowles was caught.
One of the most prolific serial killers of the past century.
