Author's Note
Since this was first written in January of 2022, my mother has come close to dying twice. I revised and updated her words here. I don't know where she is. For several weeks my only contact with her has been through email. I hope she senses my fear. I hope she'll return and try again to shake the chains of addiction.

Reading this since her passing, I reflect she fulfilled one wish "If I could choose my dying, it would be while I'm still beautiful" , as I've commented elsewhere, I am certainly glad she was not reduced to the prematurely aged state of some younger addicts I have seen pictured in news stories.
