Reminiscent

to these new broken shadows
and those previously unfettered
thoughts creak like timbers on a ship
it’s not an unexpected twist
that rewrites time already spent

conformity steps into the light
ummm, haven’t we met before?
I ask like a trouser snake lounge lizard
sitting haunted like a lost empire
you talk to me like never before

in the silence I hear a whisper
my name is carried on the wind
scraps of shade emerge from the mist
echoing in the bare branches
to linger in a subliminal solitude

maiden fair fallen into oblivion
sheltered forest of a serpents kiss
my tongue will sing of its majesty
winter sun setting on a fragile day
slipping away and lost in a trance

no reprisal and no silly fairytale
warm flesh grows in nature's eve
I am cardboard in the rain
a ship adrift in a spiritual current
if the palette of salty stars could only talk

the giddy fairies of sleep call to me
to a graveyard of abandoned dreams
recognition unwraps the secrets
a sleek world of perpetual writhing
the mysterious fog veils a strange moon
