Image for the poem demon kin

demon kin

in my depths I drown
the darkness acquainted with my soul glower
it had a child of gentleness in its mix
sewing seeds of kindness and respect

the demons weren't used to this
they were accustomed to commands
I showed them love and they respond
telling me of their fears and worries
teaching me their sacred language and traditions

no one cares about demons
they are fearsome creatures
but they have dreams too
and some don't like torturing humans,
living secondhanded lives

they are an ancient culture
one of a kind
they watch out for me
they are my royal guardians

I have come to love them
once they came for my life, I was an enemy
but I kept my head and treated them as I wanted to be treated
now they are my demon kin
