Strange Fruit

It laid within the palms of my hands like precious jewels.
Allowing me to feel its weight, tempting my senses with its essence.
Encouraging me to take a closer look, a small taste.
Softly whispering my wants in the most beautiful way possible
You would have thought it were birds singing on an early spring morning.
How is it possible to want something so bad it breaks you down to tears?
To crave the unimaginable without ever experiencing it, maybe it is like watching snow fall for the first time.
And not being able to experience it fall upon your skin, to listen as it crushes underneath your feet.
Melt within the palm of your bare hands.
Nonetheless, you find yourself lost within your own thoughts.
Dreaming of the possibilities, wondering what could or even have been.
Had you had the opportunity to taste, feel and experience.
If I were to dream of the sensations that would develop within the depths of my soul.
That electrifying shift within my cells that would result in an overflow of adrenaline to take control of my body.
I can only attempt to create that experience, and still be so wrong.
Would it be wrong to compare it to sadness?
That overwhelming feeling of abandonment when something you want so bad is taken away from you.
And it does not matter how much you cry, and how hard you fight…at some point you realize that it is not only within your grasps.
But also, would never be.
So, all you can do in the end is cry.
And although it seems as though your tears can relieve the hurt that you obviously feel.
You are handed this strange fruit to hold, while knowing that you can never consume it.
Can you imagine carrying around something that not only look delicious, but smells even more amazing?
On one hand you would love to disobey the orders that you were given.
Then on the other hand, knowing what you know.
Keeps you bound to your restraints.
You see those restraints are there to protect you from yourself.
They are there to help keep you in line whenever you feel the need to act out of your character.
These restraints are not heavy; therefore, you are unable to say that you are in pain.
They give you just enough freedom to do as much as you can do within the limitations that you were given.
And if you do not eat the fruit and remain within your set boundaries.
You can continue to imagine what it would be like, how amazing it would be.
If you were able to eat that strange fruit.
