Why Do They Hate The Word Gay?
Gay is
A beautiful word describing happiness
And acceptance.
Why do they despise the fair lips of a rose
Kissing the heart of a daffodil?
Why is this beautiful word tossed around like
An insult? If you toss it, we'll use the stones to
Build a kingdom.
Her kingdom is not something to be ashamed of
Just because there are alligators in the swamp
Who enjoy breaking apart love in respect
For tradition.
They say closets hold skeletons
But monsters are the angry ones with signs
Protesting a kiss
Monsters are politicians in slick suits
Pretending gay people don't exist,
The ones stating that the word should be
"Knocked out of existence"
As if they haven't already tried.

Conservatives know full well that the LBGT community is the easiest to pick on for the purposes of hate based politics.
Most conservatives are heartless capitalists whose culture of bullying is based on sick notions of traditional cruelty disguised as discipline.
I imagine by now whole academic essays have been written about the history of the word gay. Conservatives have succeeded in turning that word into a slur in certain antisocial circles but I will wager that the vast majority of Americans would prefer your version of it.

A truly powerful write. It is a sad day indeed for anyone who is discouraged to love who they wish. Every individual is worthy of love and belonging regardless of who they love. There is no place for politics when it comes to what is in our hearts. Saw a quote recently that I truly appreciated. "Your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth." Keep loving and writing with your whole heart. Bless
