Shadow Realm

A ghost lingers in the shadows
with fire in his eyes and a hiss on his lips
talking to me with a muted mouth only I can hear.

I follow him into the shadow realm
to see him more clearly
seeing more phantoms they quickly surround me.

Slowly sucking the life from
all that enter here
injecting them with despair.

I don't flee from this place
I know it all too well
having eyes that can see in the dark.

I go deeper into the darkness
to see what other beasts lurk here
clawed, fanged demented beings.

I realise they can't touch me
these are the legion attached to drugs
I crossed over this chasm.

Into the light
the life once sucked out me
is now slowly being pumped back in.

Not to say they haven't left
their bite I still have a ragged scar
that looks like a lightning bolt.

Where these beasts zapped me
an abscess that nearly took my arm
now healed over I wear it like a badge of honor.

Knowing I beat the shadow dwellers
heroin, crank, and pcp
no more ghosts to linger.

Never again will I stick
a needle in my arm
as it sucks at my soul.

I'm free a shadow dweller no more.
