Nursery Rhyme

Mary goes around
the chicken coop
picking eggs
picking eggs
puts the first one in a keg
and the second in a bag
if the third smells like nutmeg
throw away that egg
throw that egg away
put away
put away
put away
before it turns grey
this is not a gag
give the forth egg to a hag
write all this in a tag
and just pick another egg
don't worry about the hen
she can run
she can fly
she can run
in the wind like a flag
very proud not to drag
Mary picks the fifth egg
be quiet and don't brag
breaks the shell
there's a chick
go on Mary
go on and pick
Mary goes around
the chicken coop
but she has no egg to pick
so she leaves
the empty basket
ties her corset
puts on her boots
and the helmet
climbs up to
riding her rooster
and merry-go-round
her coop of dreams.

Author's Note
As a child I used to love my mother to tell me the most wacky stories she could remember and if she would sing it the moment was even better. Hope you enjoy reading this playful poem as much as I did writing it.
