hunger

bloody steak and crisp asparagus
creamy potatoes and red wine
this is a fine meal
a hearty meal
a meal fit for a king

it is not that kind of hunger

the fridge is full, the cellar stocked
there is enough food in this house for a year
for a family
for a life

it is not my plate that is empty

the kitchen is beautiful
it is functional and full of capable hands

it is not my stomach that is quaking

we do not know hunger here
only warm plates and full bellies

it is not food I am starving for
