6am dog walk
Onyx was pacing at the door
No dump last night
Pretty baby had to go
Hit the street running
Past the fruit stand
Quick good morning to Kamal
Say it again on the way back
Onyx takes her time
Needs the right spot
I run her across the avenue
Past the diner
Sniffs all the garbage bags
Part Greyhound, nose like Bloodhound
Likes to offload by the white SUV
Cold morning, warm bag in hand
Love the early morning darkness
Nameless dog walkers
Though you know their dog's name
A lot of people wearing hoodies
Some carrying coffee cups
Ominous silent observation
We walk 13 blocks then head home

Dear H,
Yes, back with a dog poem. They will keep coming. Nothing like a dog to spur poems. She is teaching me patience, not something I have a lot of. No choice, she's the Boss.

I love the early morning darkness. It's such a quiet time. Your walks sound so quaint. Also, if that is a painting, I'd definitely hang it on my wall.

I live in a BIG fast paced city with little quiet.
So the earlier I go out the more peaceful the walk.
It lets one appreciate silence and calm. The night walk is a total shit storm. Everyone is out and so much traffic and distractions. You can’t space out at night.

I love the darkness too, something cozy about the morning darkness. I do also love the extended daylight at night during the summer. It’s funny knowing the other’s dogs’ names. Sounds like good times with Onyx.

She loves the morning walk. Real prancing only to stop for a large pile of garbage. Which happens often every other day. But collectively we enjoy the calm before the NYC storm. I may have to finally move though soon, the city is way out of control once the morning passes. Don't know if I can raise my dog daughter here indefinitely....

Dogs bring out the stories or they bring them. I'll be okay when it's lighter and warmer. Some days are bone crushing cold. It's all part and parcel of the experience in the early morning.
