Image for the poem Darkness

Darkness

It's never the darkness that scares me
But what screams from within it
Telling them to go away to no avail

They were never there
Before you created them

How do you turn it off?
Outside of death?
Dangerous; feeding

Shadows will exist even after death
The bit of darkness we cannot exist without
Nor it without us

Our own personal reminder of what is inescapable

Madness exists there in the darkness
The visibly quiet and still
Some will say nothing is there
They do not live there

There's a tingling behind your ears
Maybe it's because it's hard to see
And our thoughts create the substance to fill the void

Such a shame that without presence, all that's left
Are the dark corners of our own mind,
to combat that which we are trapped by

A single window creates the depth
Sitting in the corner, the rest are holes
An entire void of nothingness
Where all my demons whisper and laugh

Screaming only drowns out the sound
The sound only I can hear
The sound of everything I feel

Darkness does not consume
It breeds
It piles within itself
And stands taller than any flame

Light is weak and fleeting
Like me

You can run from darkness
But the shadows....
Remember?

There are no lessons to be learned from the darkness
Only new fears to be discovered
But the darkness is not evil

It's nothing

The evil exists inside your mind

Inside of me
