The Edge of Closing Time

Free, but not.
Loved, but not enough.
Giving, but sometimes more than can be received.
At the edge of life’s closing time, she hears “last call” and
her eyes dance with desires for just one more day of life.

Author's Note
Mother finished treatment and is finally home. She is free of the Fentanyl that brought her down but not the underlying addictions. She seems frantic to find love. Last night when she left the house, she said each day ended like the edge of life’s closing time.

While I waited for her, I wrote this and set it to a photo of her in front of her favorite photos of me. Her smile is young and she looks content inside her skin. I wish she could return to that time.

She’ll eventually see this and recognize my fear. I hope it doesn’t cause her pain but helps her see how much I love her.
