Beach Day

Beach Day

In winter,
we play and get dirty outside after school.
In the summer,
these hot days spent swimming
and splashing in the hotel pool.
Some kids are nerdy, others are cool.
A trip to the beach,
so many ways to have fun.
Some of us are tan,
lathered in tanning lotion.
Summertime, spent soaking in the sun.
Some of us are pale.
To stay inside, we prefer to choose.
We play checkers and chess,
some win and some lose.
A ship sets sail, put in motion.
Propelled by the sea breeze.
A crashing wave.
It's late but school is out,
may we stay up one more hour, please?
We'll be quiet,
we promise we'll behave.
Sun and blue skies,
trips down the boardwalk eating Thrasher's fries.
Summer vacation has its perks.
Tying turkey necks to rope
so that we can catch some crabs,
whatever works.
Wasn't it fun,
that one rollercoaster ride?
Looking out at the sea,
unable to see the other side.
A week spent without worrying
and obsessing over certain things.
Summertime at the beach,
oh the happiness it brings.
