The Longest Wait

Another day waits
the trees sigh for spring
lovers crave summer
while sparrows guard silence
in a huddle of icy wings
and I dream you by the fire
braiding my hopes through your hair
chaining daises round my heart
as time drives the last nail home
into the prison
we'll always share
for you know I have waited this long
have waited a lifetime
for you
