The Immortal Tree

Upon this hill I have sat
Near a millennium
From sprout to bud
I have stood the test if time

Across this earth
My roots have spread
Over hills of green
Across the oceans vast

I have seen the rise of man
I have seen them fall
And rise once more
To build their future

Or destroy it

Wars were waged
Wars were ceased
The blood of mankind
Has soaked my roots

Hate
Greed
Lust
Power

Vile traits that turn their society

Love
Laughter
Empathy
Compassion

Qualities that restore my faith in humanity

I have grown with them
Each of my branches
Symbolizes the different paths they take
Each leaf, represents the life they live

For we all live under the same sun
Breathe the same air
Feel the wind blow
Stand on the dirt beneath

I am......The Immortal Tree

Author's Note
Originally it was going to be a story concept, but I decided to turn it into a poem. Maybe one day it will turn into a short story, only time will tell.
