Pondering the Past

Flashbacks that stop me dead in my tracks, déjà vu
My opiate, my tears, and rose-colored glasses
Comfort is creed, can't move on, so I blackout in lieu

In my day dreams, you make me a heretic, it's true
Palliative sedation: steady, and sweet as molasses
Flashbacks that stop me dead in my tracks, déjà vu

Sometimes a pea under a matress or a rock in my shoe
Regrets, pressure cooking my unresolved impasses
Comfort is creed, can't move on, so I blackout in lieu

Hunger pains for history to repeat itself... To relive you.
An obsession with symbols, like old dimes with fasces
Flashbacks that stop me dead in my tracks, déjà vu

In the sun, mourning the things i often misconstrue
Of you, I try my damnedest to forget, pouring ashes
Comfort is creed, can't move on, so I blackout in lieu

One foot in front, tightroping between the taboos
To forget you is folly, and as to dwell, folly amasses
Flashbacks that stop me dead in my tracks, déjà vu
Comfort is creed, can't move on, so I blackout in lieu
