Lace of Death

Lace of Death - just a fun, dark poem. I like a good dark poem now and then.

When will it come,
the black lace of death?
Will I know of the moment
when I take my last breath?
Will I be strung in the gallows?
Will my ears hear a song?
Will they forgive my choices
I made to be wrong?

The black lace of death,
I know your brother well.
He has captured my soul
and left this withering shell.
Do not laugh by my absence.
In the end I will scream
as you poison my brain
with your perverted dream.

I will die not to know you
but to leave a facade.
Done away with the games
of some whimsical god.
In the end matters not
as we try to survive.
It is pointless.
It is empty
when we live not alive.

I await the black lace.
Old friend do not disappoint.
Time has long passed
when I thought there a point.
This body becomes tired.
Physically it's not old
but the weight of its carry
makes it brittle and cold.

Tonight the mind sleeps
to awaken nevermore.
Do you suppose they will notice
or simply close the door
and go on as if nothing
here matters to man?
After all, just a number
that has changed in the plan.                    --msl2023
