The AI Poet

Nestling in an expensive corner
of a secret government laboratory
the AI poet code-named Simon
clicked and gave smug little beeps
as the wheels of creativity whirred
Programed to process
ten thousand words a minute
it would only be a matter of time
before the ultimate poem was born
All the great works from history
had already been absorbed
into the vast data banks
occupying an entire floor
A perfect memory configuration
and the ability to recall every stanza
and every line ever written
by mankind's geniuses of yore
as far back as Gilgamesh
ensured only new original work
would result
At last Simon delivered
his eagerly awaited masterpiece
printed on a single sheet of paper
into the trembling hand
of the head of research
who read the words out loud
to his expectant coworkers:
"It's all been said before."
