Straw Cage

Disappointment germinates      
spreads its lacklustre leaves      
leaving no gaps of faith to leap    
Strands of disapproval      
acrimoniously creep    
invisible vines of violence      
strangle slowly, undetected      
unnoticed as they choke out the life selected    
From insipid streams, relentlessly seep      
nurturing apathy and pointlessness      
undermining innate powers          
Futility flowers    
with its festering fragrance      
enticing eager insects in too deep    
lapping up insidious nectar laced    
stripping aggression, opposition and/or rage      
unaware they’re being digested      
they revel while they rot    
behind the weak, brittle bars      
of their semi self imposed straw cage
