What does it mean to have lost you?
The question has swirled in my head since you’ve been gone.
But none of the answers have brought me any comfort or solace.
What does it mean to have lost you?
It means you are gone.
It means that I am here and it means….
That what’s left is all that you’ve left behind.
The truth, in the comfort of your passing
The thought that there is no pain, in truth brings more pain.
You’ve left broken more than you’d broke
And it’s a testament to the love that was a given.
But tell me please what does it mean to have lost you?!?
I cannot find the answer myself, and you’re not here to share it, and I know that you would.
You always did.

This is my first poem ever written and it’s a dedication to my grandmother whom I just recently lost. It was a heavy blow to me and my family and these are just a few of the feelings I have on it.

One of the worst parts of surviving a loss is the unanswered questions it leaves behind. Excellent spill!

I recently got acquainted with this word lacuna or lacunae, it is the empty space where something was, like a rock with a hollow the shape of a seashell in it. What we lose retains a shape in our hearts. It moves me when we remember those who've gone. I wrote one recently where the fulcrum of the poem rested simply on the words, And she's gone.
As long as she is remembered, she is with you, but it hurts. Just my experience with loss.
