Chaotic

Sounds they surround,
from all around us.
Pockets keep chirping,
It’s seemingly endless.

The sounds keep a coming,
an endless march.
Our posture’s destroyed,
   necks full of starch.

From daybreak through nightfall,
    Something keeps ringing.
You can catch a reprieve,
    If you listen to singing.

Di di di. Another article?
An e-mail from work.
Oh, a twittertator update,
Some say he’s a jerk.

We’ve formed a habit,
    a dependency, an addiction.
These phones never stop,
    then cause my affliction.

Even in silence,
    With airplane mode on.
The birds and the city
    make the sounds carrion.

An email, text message,
    a facebook group update.
These ceaseless connections,
    degrade my mental state.

I long for forgotten,
    old ways of the past.
When times were more manual,
    man, where’s that EMP blast?
