Crazy Labels

you’ve got some nerve
thinking you are
crazy

there is no
identity crisis
you are who you are

just like the rest of us
flawed
perfection

culture creates labels
to make us think we are
weird

strange
unusual
different

dangerous
and we
buy into it

but labels don’t make it so

label a bottle of scotch as brandy
and the bottle’s contents
don’t become brandy

somewhere along the line
someone labeled you
and you bought into it

in our lifetimes
we all have
fears

inadequacies
anger
lust

we all have
periods of
depression

at times
we are all
pathological

psychopathic
sociopathic
sadistic

we all experience
dysphoria
fetishes

someone labeled you
(or you labeled yourself)
and you bought into it

obsessive compulsions
phobias philias
hormonal rage

if we’re being honest
sexual obsessions
homicidal urges

at times everyone
rides the wagon
on again off again

addictive behaviors
destructive habits
binges purges

we are not
the labels
we wear

you experience edges
of mind
in a way others can’t

that’s cool

you’ve got some nerve thinking
you are crazier
than the rest of us
