After life

Up the stairs,
straight ahead,
take a right,
another right
and there
behind some beakers
and other useful containers
you'll find a ram's head,
vertebrae, some ribs,
the jaw
of a horse,
a small, fully formed
snake skeleton
and a badger
but no longer
a horned skull,
several others
from bleached Moorland sheep,
a woodpecker, a rabbit
and another in tact badger.
You see,
I stole them home,
couldn't leave them
to be another item for the dusting,
will instead
mount one on wall,
gift another to a friend.
have one to make a resin mold,
to hang upon a pin,
will sit one upon a window,
plant another full of ferns.
It's a quiet way to worship
the turning of this life.
