Crimson Eyes

Crimson Eyes

In the recesses of time there exists a creature
that no one wishes to know.
Shadows dance, though epileptic.
Eyes of crimson open and glow.

On the cave walls bats cling and sigh.
Somewhere far off water rolls.
Blood light peeks in to illuminate
this creature so said hungry for souls.

Our hero walks towards the cavern of time,
light fading, revealing the shepherd moons.
The cavern on the horizon, here he stops,
he prays, he meditates, he consults the runes.

'Destroy the creature,' the runes, they say,
'that we not know of it come times ahead,
for the unknown is enemy to be expelled,
take hold of sword and cut off the head.'

In the recesses of time awaits the unknown.
That which we fear only holds ourselves back.
Should we welcome the new?
Should we give it a chance?
Who is thirsty for blood
when we jump to attack?

Yet here goes the mighty, our hero,
off to slay the unknown
when perhaps we could learn
which is why those shadows dance, though epileptic....
which is why crimson eyes open and burn.
