Bad omens

''This is beyond my capabilities, Herr Stuff. I will recommend that you consult with Professor Doctor Schmidt at his clinic in Guckenbackenkirche''.
  So it was that on this early Monday morning, also in early June of the year of our Lord 1812 that Franz G. Stuff packed his mule for the perilous voyage to the reknowned city on the Isar.  Perilous because he would have to go through the Verbotenwald where thieves, wild animals and ghosts ruled. But he would thus save a day.  He was confident that his Bible, his Crucifix and his amulets would protect him.
   That did not work as he was robbed of his purse by thieves, attacked by a bear as he sadly found himself between her and her cubs and, in his sleep constantly haunted by the ghosts of his past, which was one of the reasons for his travels.
   it took him three days to reach Guckenbackenkirche only to find out that Doctor Schmidt, expert in dealing with cases having to do with astrology, inexplicable occurances and strange appearences, forewarned of his visit decided to cast spells of his own, thus definitely  blocking Herr Stuff from reaching his destination and his goal.
   No way would Doctor Schmidt seek to save the soul of a man who cheated, lied and a man who'd sold his soul to the Devil.
