this heaven’d sight --
See the focused light within
the angel’s eyes,
as dark as coal,
enraptured night,
intent and wide and glistening,
See his arrowed flight
and haloed head,
his wings unfurled, incarnadined,
his robes in gilded harnesses,
his white white hand stretched out
above, above
at Christmas time
to bring God’s blessing down
unto the burdened world
and sign the earth with love.
See this now,

I put my fingertips to my keyboard. and follow what I've learned from reading the ekphrastic poetry of Years, Shelly, Sexton. Auden, Williams, er al. And while I thank you for recognizing that my piece IS poetry (how could you not, given that it meets all of your criteria for what a writing has to have to be poetry) , what do you mean by "such a poem"?
"Do you believe in Christ?"
What does that have to do with whether this ekphrastic piece is well written and captures the essence of Giotto's angel and what it is doing? That's the only issue that should be under discussion.
(Did Yeats have to believe in Zeus to write his "Leda and the Swan" or W.C. Williams in Icarus to write his "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus"? Did da Vici have to believe in Medusa to paint her portrait?)
And FWIW, I don't believe in your Gnostic Christ.

Hey, J-Z! Assuming you know what an ekphrastic poem is and how to write one, I challenge you to do so using the following image as your subject and ensuring that it is not grammar gaffed, syntactically and idiomatically questionable. filled with deixis, all tell and no show, verbally stale and inept, theologically heretical, and coherent as well as comprehensible

And any excuse you use for not doing so (i.e., you haven't the time, you are not interested in ekphrastic poetry, you won't be dictated to, etc.), will be good reason to take you as admitting you lack the skill to do so. Are you or are you not a master of all things poetical? If you are, then producing such a poem should be easy for you.
