Sodom & Gomorrah 2022
The world halted on its axis turning clockwise
Non-wiser than the moon, the sun, the stars
Underbelly of fools’ gold in clouds of stardust.
Angels sang off key humming broken melodies
Children watched demons dancing on streets
Art of indifference embedded beneath the skin.
We fell on knees, praying to God’s deaf ears
Faith to faithless snaking between jagged teeth
Cries of a newborn cleansing mortal sins.
O’ Star of Bethlehem,
Guide shepherds and sheep, jesters and kings
The road to salvation is long, narrow and
Gates of heaven bolted with steel.

This blends the dark and light, the holy and rather un holy/unholy well as we often are confronted with advocating
demons in the name of God or the divine. Perhaps one day inferno and earth will blend as one, who knows....

There's a lot to unpack here, art of indifference was the strongest draw for me, for all it could suggest and entail in these divided times. Though the imagery is evocative of religious themes associated with the holidays, I think of the growing disparaties upon the socioeconomic and sociopolitical spectrum when I think about how the world engines are grinding to a halt, in a sense. There's a stark gravitas to your message that is impacting. O Star of Bethlehem is almost a refrain amidst the rest, a paradox of the sentimental amidst the Draconian circumstances of the zeitgeist. You remain a singularly insightful author.
