Fluffy

Her name was Fluffy, a collie mix
I found her as a puppy living off of garbage and shit
She didn't know any better, she was no more than a babe
With a pat on the head and a lick, a bond was made

She followed me back home with a little coercion along the way
Everytime she saw something she wanted to stop and play
A butterfly fluttering or a dragonfly darting by
She couldn't catch either, but she still gave it a try

While catching up here and there, trying to nip at my feet
Any bark off in the distance and she's accepting defeat
Stopped in her tracks, ears pricked, three paws down and one up
This didn't matter, this was our bonding, her learning to trust

She sounded kind of cute when we shared a bark between us
The rest of the way home, it wasn't a conversation we were just making fuss
A boy giving his puppy it's first bath, yes she was a total disgust
To get inside the house, it was a must

Rules were made train her on the newspaper
It's kinda hard to make sure she makes it to the newspaper
But that night a boy had a dream about him and his dog
She was jumping catching fribees and accompanying him on a jog

The next day at school, I didn't learn anything, I couldn't concentrate
I was a boy with a dog at home and I couldn't wait
For school to let out and for me to finally make it home
There was so many things to explore, so many places to roam

But arriving home, there was a strange car out front
A kid's mind is who and what do they want
Entering the house I saw the biggest smiles
I was introduced followed, by this is the child

The parents and children all introduced themselves
Why are they holding my dog like they own her themselves
They explained that Fluffy had been in the newspaper for the last two weeks
Where you found her we never thought to seek

How did they find out that I had found their dog
Someone from my family accidentally said,"oh"
The short of it was that I got a two dollar reward
I never looked in the paper for the amount of the actual reward

Asked if I needed time to say good-bye
Someone on my side said, don't worry he's a big boy, he won't cry
Everyone along with Fluffy was loaded up and driven away
Watching the car disappear with tears in my eyes, I realize that Fluffy was given away
