The Graveyard of Hope

 
how many times
has hope died in sacrificial death
tied to the alter of our dreams
the heart cut out to appease
the weakening of our knees
how we plead and pray
wishing we had assayed  
this challenge of the spirit  
to never manifest or inherit
the promises made long ago
never turning hopes into goals
the graveyard overflows
the weeds overgrown
hiding the tombstones of our lives
