Image for the poem Escaping

It was the only thing on my mind!

But every possible way that I could see was blocked by one of them.
I should not have walked back to the center.

The older ones seemed the worst!
Such fierceness on their faces!
Closing in on me slowly....slowly...
backs hunched and arms out!
Hands like claws!

I tried to show them the piece of paper,
that I really was okay but it did not seem to matter!
The alarm had been activated and in their brains
this had activated "KILL!"

I cried out!
I prayed to God to help me through this!
Looking this way, that way, all around
I could see no escape!

Two of them were getting dangerously close behind me.
If I had to fight I would.
I was prepared to die but I was determined that I would
damn well take at least two, maybe three down with me!

"I have it! Don't you see!" I tried yelling out in desperation one more time.
"What the hell's the matter with you people!"

The look in their eyes, pure insanity.
I made a break for it!

One of the older ones did an incredible roundhouse but I got under it.
There was a lane ahead of me now!
I looked back, seeing the old lady getting back on her feet.

Then the door!
Thank God! The door!

I ran through, the alarm still going off.
Why, I don't know!
Damnit! I had paid!
I had the receipt to prove it!

I made it outside.

"Yeah! Yeah you crazy mother (Censored)!"

Then the cart attendant hit me from behind
and everything went black.
