A Better Place

Thinking of you
In the midst
Of all to be thankful for
In holiday heartache I reminisce
For all the moments I wish you were part of
I still canít help but miss

As everyday I long in minced emotions of sorrow and happiness
From thanksgiving and the days up to Christmas

All the memories we shared
That canít be except in memory and spirit
Even so your voice lingers in my mind
In such a way my heart can still hear it

What am I thankful for
The question is a bittersweet serenade
Im thankful for you and all that you were
Still so fresh in my mind like a whispering marinade
As my heart begins to stir

So sharp still at times
When I remember
The love that carried us through so many years
From January to December

An unfading spark still lives on
I know you exist in a place of eternity
But I still feel the weight because right now youíre gone

Such is life as they say as we are faced once again with the weight of death
But itís all the more to be thankful for the life weíve been blessed
To take advantage of every opportunity and savor each breath

I love you now, always and forever
For all that you were and still are in some way
In my life a voice reminding of the joy to be had in each passing day

For why linger in grief
When all that it taught me is family is what matters the most
So to you I lift my glass for those missed up in heaven and still here
I offer up a Thanksgiving toast

Thank you for all that youíve been and still are
Sending my love from a place not too farÖ
