Thanks, Giving

Broken lovers
on the side of the bed
on every holiday;
Some reassembly required.
Take what you can re-(it's no) use
and leave the rest
for the next
Piercing the darkness
of where you call home
You don't have to fight
that dragon alone.
We can fail together
and then cry separately
once we are done.
They make holidays
out of trial and errors
Celebrate successes
Although the results
took so many losses
Just for this Once
of having a good day.
We can call it
our anniversary.
A birthday, really, of when
we were so balanced
with equal everything.
I held you so much
on my shoulders
You loved my lofty goals.
Although I couldn't see
where I was going
-only saw, where
I was taking you.
I could've put you
on my back, instead, but then
you wouldn't get to feel
where I was going
Into your darkness.
I guess we made
a carcass of ourselves.
But those naps;
Our legs still feeling
like they're falling
although flatly
on the bed.
The splices of light
between the blinds
We can name them candles
Too bright, to bother
us rushing up
to put them out.
Let them celebrate
this pretense
as long as they like.
Darkness comes,
soon enough
to every lonely home.
You have yours
I have my own.
I can't call these thoughts
It sounds too cold.
It's a trail, of crumbs
for the dragon
that follows me home.
It eats everything
so far, that
we've given it,
down to the bone.

Author's Note
Going to the ex's for turkey day. She'll hint around to us getting back together. I will humor her, just for the free food.
I'm not an asshole.  She wanted the split.  She got it.
