Trouble

T'was the earth's toothy grin full of razers
Reaching out for us all
Ashamed of what we've become, of how hard we did fall,
Swoops us all up,
Scoops out our guts, and eats them all up.
Makes us jump ship at the first sign of trouble,
After years of living in a bubble
Even if, only for a portion of life,
And then we spew excuses, with them, we are rife.
As soon as trouble strikes,
We jump up and leave, shouting, "YIKES!"
Then the pain and trouble moves on to someone new,
Growing stronger with each victim they chew up and spit out, until the many becomes few,
Then the few become none.
No one left to see the shining of the sun,
For the knights, their sworn protectors, chickened out, and did run,
Leaving the empty husks of what were once great individuals,
Hollow on the inside, for they miss their castles
That they once ruled,
With the passions that once, their souls were fuelled,
The topics and subjects, hobbies, arts, careers, and more,
Will now be a thing of lore,
If all the people of the world have become snakes,
And at the first sign of trouble, don't push back, but instead flake,
Individuality is amazing,
But definitely not the complaining
For reasons based solely on not wanting to do anything,
Not for being anyone or anything,
Tolerance we all should learn,
But also for a thicker skin we should yearn.
