What Is This

I look at this relationship simply as a rosebush so full of thorns
There are so many trials between the ground and where I'm going
Climbing the stem of this relationship trying to navigate the dangers
At times it's as if we are still two separate strangers

Regardless of time spent, regardless of the topic
No matter how close I try to get, you find some way to stop it
You're feeding me tidbits of yourself when I need a mouthful
I'm full of your deceit, yes I'm starving for you to be truthful

This seems to be as far as you dare to take us
To you everything involve in a real relationship isn't a must
You want the sex, but only on your terms
That's okay, to a relationship sex is simply a berm

Used to contain the over flow of love that we have for each other
Built up high enough to ensure no spillage, nothing left for another
But our problems continue as if another has won your heart
You're making me question myself, did I play a part

Did I show neglect since I vowed to love you and only you
Am I wrong for declaring that a return of my love is far overdue
Do you feel that the attention isn't there, that I'm far from being committed
Do you truly want to fall in love but feel that I'm not with it

I've navigated this rosebush of a relationship, along the stem and the thorn's tip
I've grasped it like barbed wire determined not to let it slip
Instead of ripping through my hands it's tearing out chunks of heart and mind
I'm looking towards your petals and stigma in hopes of a loving sign
