Move Out of Town

when you open your hands
with the knowing that all that you love
will leave...
when you watch with a false smile
to someones departure only
to close your windows to grieve

they say to do so is to be bold, to be noble
they don't tell you it will be cold, heart immobile

no one speaks of the slow burn of uncertainty,
the lack of faith of self felt so ardently

the questions you ask yourself
long after you've spoken the words
the suppression of all your
self inflicted, heart numbing hurts

You peer outward, horizon-bound, for sunlight...
forever unto them.

You look at yourself, empty handed, left quiet...
a hemorrhage to stem.

We walk the path of love and we walk it without shoes
we guard ourselves naught, for we are Pain's muse

We hold the line for those
 too beautiful and innocent,
our hearts a feast for crows,
fated only for the end of it.

End of love, shattering of glass….
our greatest fears, come to pass…

our greatest weakness shown to bare,
our deepest wants with none to care
our greatest joys, but with who to share?

our duty served... surely that is fair...?

So I cling to the memories so profound,
moments of lust, love and hope recklessly abound.
And so too myself, to be picked up from the ground,
before I pack up my bags....

 and move out of town.
