Vacillation
You said you’d pluck out the Pleiades
from the starry sky as a gift to me
but you seared my hands,
thrust a thrumming supernova into my palms
I love you
You said you’d give me wings of silk
to win over the eagles, to soar unfettered
but you scraped off my skin, revealed my ribs,
tore them off for the vultures to pick at
I love you
You said you’d tickle between my toes
with the green grass that grows in Eden
but you nipped at my feet with frostbite,
coiled around my ankles so I couldn’t run
