Listening to Hear
Dearest ____,
How can I express
Just how very much I wish
That I could sit with you right now
And listen.
We’d listen to the silence
Listen to the rhythms of our breaths
We’d hear the heartbeats
In each other’s chests
I’d listen closely to the silence of your eyes
I’d seek to hear the subtle secrets
In each shape of your teasing lips
Most of all, I’d gently seek to soothe your soul
To coax your words to trust me
With the story of your heart
Yes, most of all I desire
The sound of your voice
Trusting me once more.
I fear I only drive the sounds of you
Deeper, deeper in the dungeon
Of your thick-walled keep
Is there no secret door
Through which you might grant me passage
To hear your words,
Heart, soul & body again
Someday?
How can I express
Just how very much I wish
That I could sit with you right now
And listen.
We’d listen to the silence
Listen to the rhythms of our breaths
We’d hear the heartbeats
In each other’s chests
I’d listen closely to the silence of your eyes
I’d seek to hear the subtle secrets
In each shape of your teasing lips
Most of all, I’d gently seek to soothe your soul
To coax your words to trust me
With the story of your heart
Yes, most of all I desire
The sound of your voice
Trusting me once more.
I fear I only drive the sounds of you
Deeper, deeper in the dungeon
Of your thick-walled keep
Is there no secret door
Through which you might grant me passage
To hear your words,
Heart, soul & body again
Someday?
