Old Grey Shirt
When I think about it, my old grey shirt and I have been on quite a journey together.
It has accompanied me through thick and thin for many years,
Appearing at key moments in lots of photos, my historic attire.
Wearing a shirt such as mine, you can't go wrong with a neutral colour like grey -
And I never stand out; it goes with anything I wear, from difficult greens to well...
Difficult greens!
I bought that shirt five years ago or so, maybe longer, who knows?
I'm sure it's only a Primark label; why would I have gone elsewhere to spend more?!
My old grey shirt and I have been through a lot together, we really have.
It will be sad to see him go but one day I know he will have to.
Feeling a little choked up to be honest, not so much for the shirt but for what we've done.
So, what am I going to replace him with when he finally shreds...
I know, how about a brand new grey shirt?
Only this time with buttoned-down collar!

Thanks, Relic for taking a look at this. Yes, in a way I'm quite looking forward to that brand-new day/shirt moment! There's nothing like it. I'm all for new beginnings. No good/point in staying stagnant indefinitely! ;-)

Thank you Steve. That's interesting. It seems there are indeed many reasons we become attached to clothes, some of which you've outlined. I don't think I'll have a problem chucking the shirt out, however, there's a 'Lee' lumberjack shirt I wore in Texas that I may have an emotional bond with. I was gonna say, tie with, lol. 😀

this was definitely a new kind of read. I know the feeling of having that comfort clothing that's just right!! the color, the fit, texture and all, along with building various memories, then having to separate from it can be difficult-heartbreaking even. some won't innerstand because it's just an item or piece of clothing and although that's true, it still can somehow become a part of you in so many ways that cannot be explained but you did on how complex that can be. I hope you find that again and have more great memories on any adventure you encounter.

Thank you, lovestonedfaery. Yeah, it is only a cheap shirt but it's been lived in. I won't have any problem throwing it out. I want that buttoned down collar version next. Onwards & upwards!

As someone who loves her clothes I can really appreciate this dive into
a favorite shirt. Gray is the new black buddy. I would even say grey is
close to the color of steel.
I also have a favorite floral burgundy blouse. I've had for like
10 years. Still looks great cause it's made with great material. Still looks new and
I love it!! Might wear tomorrow in honor of this piece. hahahah

That's fantastic, Adelphina! I can only assume your blouse has lasted well because it's worn only on selective occasions?
The good thing about my cheap grey shirt is that if I spill gravy on it, I'm not gonna panic. Thanks for sharing your clothes story too. 😊

Somehow they survive like we do... perhaps holes will appear but you still wear them.
Grey is one of my favorites, and darker ones... I gravitate to darker colors.
Not so much difficult greens. lol Primark, oh wow - have not seen that in so long. :p
Well the best thing is when a girl is wearing your shirt, unbuttoned of course...
And with nothing else. ;) That's the best thing you could have done in the shirt right? lol

I so agree with everythang you just said! Would you like to buy my old grey shirt, lol? (Austerity & all that!).
Failing that, don't most men wanna 'pork' their women in their favourite soccer or maybe football shirt, there in The States? Lol. What's the word on the street, KristinaX? (As Huggy Bear from Starsky & Hutch fame might answer, lol) What I really mean is, what do your mates say about shirt swapping? 😀

I have an "old multi color flannel" that I cant seem to get rid of. We've been through too much. And he likes me in it, with nothing else and heels. So its a keeper. <3

I like grey too. I usually buy grey color shirts for my other half cos it looks good on him. Some of my clothes last for a decade or two😁

I keep old clothes even if I no longer used them. I feel attached to them. For those I do not really like I give them away.

My Gran wore gray silk knickers,catalogue bought, from Franklin & Simon.

I can’t believe I missed this. Reminds me of my favorite outfit as a kid. Green bell bottoms and a white wide-collared shirt with green houses. I wore that outfit everywhere like a security blanket. Hey, it was the 70’s…

I do have a blue shirt, Brooke but I like grey because it goes with everythang I wear, lol. 😋
