Image for the poem When the great flood came

When the great flood came

I could have sworn
I was faithful to you
I gave you all I knew I should
I heeded your calls when you called
Everywhere I swear I would have followed

But when the great flood came
I was the one you left behind.
Now the water is rising past my neck
And I'm screaming out my lungs
Why am I being the one left behind?

You gave me these imperfections
Now you make them sound like they were my choice
You gave me the ability to sin,
Now I'm wrong
Made to face the consequences of the fall
Whilst I was built to fault.

I tried to repent
But you gave me the great serpent
To always tempt me
Now I'm bound to a fate I don't deserve
Why is it, that you the one I can't have?
Why is it that I'm the stone the builders left behind?
Why is it I'm the one the boat left behind?

The water is rising past my neck
And I'm screaming out my lungs
Why am I being the one left behind?
