I'm tired of talking to myself
No one listening to me
These thoughts
Sitting on a shelf getting dusty
Covered in things I almost said
Words that didn't quite fall out
Trapped in the cobwebs
Stuck between my teeth
What did you say
I didn't hear you, I was busy
Too busy
For what I had to say
Everyone is blah blah blah
With their words so loud
So I just go sit down
Silent in the crowd
I'm tired of listening to myself
Being the only one who hears me
These words
Hanging on the line getting rusty
Covered in things barely whispered
Stories that couldn't quite make the cut
Hung up in the rafters
And buried at my feet

Dear D,
Your poem reminds me of the biblical Tower of Babel. All the noise of speaking but no one hearing what the other is saying. Especially, as a child being overlooked. Their thoughts and words are as big as an adults yet, I think can easily be dismissed. I appreciated this write almost as a song with a very strong refrain. Your message is clear and meter is great. Terrific piece. H🌷

Language is just another form of inbound nervous stimulation, so it makes perfect sense that after a certain point we will be totally overloaded by it. Like staring too long at the sun, it applies to all the other senses as well.
I think the communication engineers call it...SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO...but I like your poem more.
