Slice of Heaven

She wore my blue apron
As she skillfully demonstrated her grandmother’s dearest recipe
Dough formed by rough hands
Edges made smooth by expertise
“The secret is in the lard,” she happily shared
As I watched her reverence
Pats of butter lay lovingly on top
Oven primed for baking
Sweet scent of spiced apple filled the air
As I excitedly waited for the lacey brown pattern
Forty five minutes to a slice of heaven
“My grandmother would love you,” she said quietly
As I took my first bite
