Glorification of the Mundane

Keep yourself and things surface level clean
The kind of clean your mother would be appalled by
But your friends hardly notice
Enough to keep yourself afloat as if you are doing enough
Your head above the level of grime that takes over your fridge
You wished for more than this
You thought you deserved more
Maybe you don’t
Maybe you are just the same as the rest
You have different tastes sure
But the line that separates you from the rest is razor thin
You’ve had a little extra trauma and sadness
The bags under your eyes just tell the world you are older
Not exceptional
Pushing against the grain is just point scoring against the equally unimportant
Play pretend in a field of roses
The thorns will clip at your ankles until you are nothing
Who are you this week?
Will you fight back or give up
Or are you somewhere in-between
That is ok
Glorify being mundane
Glorify being nothing
Glorify being a cliche
Glorify everything
There is no glamour in life but who can tell if we are all acting
Mutually assured destruction
A shared myth
It is no different from government or Starbucks
A shared belief that we are important
To deviate is insane
Brainwashed maybe but happy all the same
Probably
Who knows for sure
What is truly happy anyway
Money, sex or love?
What’s the purpose in purpose
Just treat others in this reality with kindness
They likely have the same questions
Do not love because you want to but because you are able too
