Willow

I am an oak tall and proud.
I will not fall for your anger
I shall stand my ground.
You try to pull and twist
You do not see what I don’t miss.
I stopped caring
Long ago.
I won’t feel your hits and kick.
I am a willow sad and alone
Do you know who I once was?
Do you see the little girl trapped in here?
She was scared abused and beat
She tried to run
But she fell to the ground.
Where she fell she chose to stay
And I sprouted from her tears.
I am the willow protecting this girl.
I hide her emotions
So she doesn’t have to fear.
But her pain overwhelms me
I start to droop.
The anguish wants to be unleashed
So it can take over us both.
Do you see the shell around the girl?
Do you even see the girl?
She lays here crying
Waiting for you.
You have been a friend
Where no one else was.
You have proved to be
A very special friend.
I am a willow, let me go
Let me be alone
So I may grow.
