Phoenix Love

You think that you were the only one burnt when the fire erupted
I was in the basement of our relationship, living all corrupt
The door was stuck, our relationship became a blaze, trapped by the flames
I now lurk in the darkness to hide this disfigured shame

I can't face you and bare the pain of hurting you over and over again
The fire destroyed the first civilization, but did anything really change
Please don't let us build upon the ruins of the past
Rebuilding means starting all over and forgetting the last

Let's totally dig out the previous foundation, we knew that it was corrupt
We both should swear an oath to never bring it up
Starting a new foundation, built brick by unselfish brick
This time honesty and loyalty is being added to each brick

But to convince you that this is something that is meant for us
To convince you that this time you can trully trust
Not just this heart, but also the vessel that contains it
The fire purged me of my sins and the games that went with it

But you are a timid little bunny, having been burnt several times before
You sniff the air and approach with caution, your heart no longer an open door
This is not your first walk among the burnt ruins of this relationship
The ash has risen and covered our sky like a solar eclipse

Like warriors we survey our battlefield, debating a treaty
This time you don't want me wanting you, this time you need me needy
Craving you enough to build a civilization so much better than any that ever existed
Your walls are crumbling as I'm rebuilding, this relationship is a phoenix, that simply persisted
