Blind Spot

I'm sorry for the times
I made you feel small
You should know that wasn't
my intention at all

The way I criticized how
you combed your hair
How could you know I even cared

When you brought me roses
but I wanted carnations
So small of me to have
such a reaction

To say it was a build up
and my work was shitty
It was just a cop out
to invoke pity

You stayed when all odds
were against this affair
You listened when I was so unfair

I dared you, compared you
to what I wanted
Leaving you left me so
lonely and haunted

I ran never thinking I would
see you again
I slid across concrete with
scuffs on my shins
I felt you behind me but
I couldn't see
you running
behind to clean up
my knees

I stopped running and decided to descend from my cross
Living without you was only my loss

You have always been in
my blind spot
I just couldn't see you
