Longing For Winter

I never longed so hard for the winter
as I did
on this seemingly endless
sweltering summer day

the leaves knew what I wanted
barren and brittle
brushing across the burning green
seeking solace from a sunny scene

cold
it demands attention
crispness cutting thru the wind
unwavering fierceness to the end

I greet her as I greet my lover
with open arms
destined to wrap around her
in a place she can be found

I never longed so hard for the winter
a bonding
of conflict, of comfort
where truth can always be bound
